New architectural solution sought for historical Narva fortress area

On 25 March, the Narva Museum Foundation and the Estonian Association of Architects announced an architecture competition to produce the best solution to the renovation of the buildings and grounds of Narva fortress. The main objective is to shape the area into a site with a modern museum, conference centre and venue for public events, capable of serving as a prestigious site on the national level as well as preserving and protecting the historical legacy of the region. The winning entries will be determined in July 2015.

“We want the new construction layers to be developed to be a respectable addition to the Narva fortress with its 700-year-long history,” said Narva Museum Foundation directorAndres Toode. “We are looking for clearly distinctive, high-quality solutions that would harmonize with the existing architecture. The aim of the competition is to make full use of the fortress as an open and visitor-friendly heritage and experiential environment.”
