The Museum of the Middle Pomerania in Słupsk is now a developing institution with two Skansen departments in Kluki and Swołowo and varied collection, which includes not only historical objects connected with the past of the region, but also fine arts. In the castle corridor there is
a large map of Pomerania drawn in 1618 by a Rostock University professor, Eilhard Lubinus. The exhibition features the development of fine arts in Pomerania from the Gothic wood sculpture of the 14th century to the late Baroque of the 18th century; and our pride and joy – the collection
dedicated to one of the most outstanding Polish artist (a painter, a writer, a playwright, a philosopher etc.) – Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz – Witkacy.

The Pomeranian Princes’ castle in Słupsk was built by Bogislaw X, called “the Great”, from the Pomeranian, Slavic dynasty the Gryfitas, in 1507.
During its long history it served protective purposes, was an abode for two widow princesses, was turned into a granary, a prison, an arsenal,
and now it is a part of the multi-department Museum of the Middle Pomerania in Słupsk.

The castle was built in Gothic style, but unfortunately no image from that period survived. The castle, which was one of several minor castles pertaining to the main seat of the Pomeranian dukes in Szczecin (Stettin), was a two-storey building. Being integrated within the system of the town's defence walls; it was of great military importance.

After no longer than 73 years it was rebuilt by Prince Johann Friedrich from the Gryfitas family in renaissance manner, with a help from a famous Italian architect Wilhelm Zachariasz, who also rebuilt the castle in Szczecin.

A third storey was added, and an arcaded gallery was built in the tower. The interiors were allocated with vaulting and ceilings, in the tower stairs were put and parquet floors were marbleized. From east side of the tower little loggia was established. Smooth eastern and western walls of the castle were decorated with bay windows, however the south wall – with small out jets.
